The Ultimate Piece of Fitness Equipment
In a world of advanced fitness machines, abs gizmos, supplements and training programs, many fitness newbie’s don’t know where to start. When looking for fitness routines or programs we must look at the ones that have withstood the test of time. The first piece of equipment that comes to mind is the heavy bag. It’s been a popular piece of fitness equipment for over 100 years. Why? I’m going to show you.
Full body workout - Punching and kicking a heavy bag just for a minute or so is incredibly intense. The cardiovascular workout of hitting a heavy bag hard is very well documented and will provide complete cardio fitness. Also, when you hit something solid, it’s like lifting weights. Start with the basic push kick to work your legs and the traditional straight punch to get those arms and shoulders.
Stress relief – For many, jogging just doesn’t cut it to reduce all their stress. Hammering a heavy bag for half an hour and taking all your frustration out on the bag will work wonders. The bag will never complain and will always leave you exhausted. It always wins. Be safe though. Proper hand care is essential. Most boxers wrap their hands like Kyle did, but I prefer the new MMA gloves. They provide more wrist support and are easy to put on.
Cost effective - A good quality heavy bag like this and some nice leather gloves will set you back about 200 dollars. Considering many pieces of equipment cost as much as a used car these days, this is a bargain and I assure you 100 years from now when were all gone people will still be hitting a heavy bag for fun and fitness.
Question from viewers:
Amber
I am right handed so that arm is stronger. Should I work extra or lift heavier weights with my left side to even myself out?
John
I work out a lot and have some good muscle definition but how can I achieve that vascular look that you see on body builders?
